Video-Portraits by Matilde Gagliardo
Biblioteca Ernesto Ragionieri, Sesto Fiorentino, Florence, June 18th-October 1st 2017
This exhibition presented 21 video portraits made in occasion of the exhibition of “La fabbrica della bellezza. La manifattura Ginori e il suo popolo di statue”.
Using the faces of the “Richard Ginori people” and that of Lorenzo Ginori Lisci, direct descendant of Carlo Ginori, founder of the Doccia factory, these video portraits tell about the competence and the pride of the workers who create exquisite porcelain objects for the factory in Sesto Fiorentino, in close connection with the objects preserved in the adjacent Museum of Doccia, closed since May of 2014.
As part of our project aimed at the re-opening of the Museum, we wanted to show the special world that is behind the Ginori porcelains. This is a lively world made up of real men and women, passion, dedication, tradition and creativity. These are the values that are embodied by the Doccia Museum. In the video portraits by Matilde Gagliardo these values take shape with sensitivity and grace. It is impossible to remain indifferent when watching the faces of the protagonists and their expressions encourage all of us to make every effort possible to bring about the rebirth of the Museum alongside a factory that is at the height of its creative activity.
